Cold Adventure Day

Back at the airport.  I just realized that this is the fourth time I've been through Pearson airport this year.  And I seem to come to a different area each time.  This area is the sadder of the options.  Two Tim hortons and maybe two restaurants.  But I had a successful trip back to the airport for the most part.  I was starting to get concerned while still in Toronto that Friday afternoon traffic might be a lot crazier than I was anticipating.  And I ran out of time to actually do anything but wander in circles.  So I headed back.  Subways went smooth, drive went smooth.  Filled up with gas at 129.6 s litre.  Yikes.  I really want to know what the news and people keep saying about alberta having such high prices because every time I leave the province it's crazy high.  At this price at home it would be on the news with people commenting how expensive it is.  But it's all what you're used to.  I did have a bit of an issue when I forgot which terminal I wanted to go to.  But I returned Stella and headed in.  With lots of time to spare.

Had another busy day, shocking!  As you can tell from above I did take the subway in.  I have a feeling that it would have been so much more time and money on gas if I had driven in.  Ad then I have to return to the car, not just the closest subway station.  I did take the bus around again.  Honestly, if any of you decide to visit toronto I have such mixed feelings about this bus.  It's so hit and miss with the tour guide and you have to wait a long time between stops.  And really, most everything touristy is on the subway lines.  Spend 10$ and get a day pass!  Unless you really really want the city tour.

I did make it up to Casa Loma.  What a great tour.  You get the audio guide included and it covers the house well without being overdone.  This place is huge!  Three floors and you can even go up one tower, the other is under renovation right now.  The guy who built it invested in electricity, made a ton of money and the the government took his company over and he lost everything with the war.  Lesson from the past:  if you have extreme amounts of money perhaps building your dream castle is a bad idea as nearly every one of these places I tour is only available for tours because the original owner went bankrupt.  Perhaps one day in the future people will come tour Katzs place in edmonton when he goes under...

I then went for the harbour cruise that was included.  It was okay.  But cold out on the water and they had chairs on the outside blocking much of the view on the inside.  But it was an experience and I do want to do a harbour cruise anyways.  We went through the Toronto islands which are right off the downtown area.  You can take a ferry over, and one even has an airport.  Which was surprisingly busy.

Between those two areas and lunch that ate up nearly my entire day.  I headed to the st Lawrence market which was interesting.  It's a little sad that edmonton has nothing like this but I fear that if we had ine it would be filled with junk.  The market is really just a permanent farmers market.  But with bakeries and fish mongers and deli counters.  And actual handmade crafts.  I found some really nice earrings there.  I was excited.

I then wandered back to Eaton Centre to get on the subway, they have two stations, one on either end.  The guides kept saying if you get really lazy you can actually just take the subway from one end to the other.  I had some free time so I did wander around.  I liked the two storey indigo store.  That was a lot of books!  Otherwise it's the same stores as at home.

On my journeys I passed the cities oldest skyscraper, the flatiron building.  Which is six stories.  When they first built it people were afraid to go to the top because the wind might knock it over!  But it's still standing.  With much larger skyscrapers behind it.

The weather all week has been beautiful.  Very warm and sunny, with random rain showers.  Today was freezing.  So of course I under dressed.  It made it hard to do some things.  Like really enjoy the cruise or sit on the top of the tour bus!  But I survived.  I really do need to check the forecast a little bit better!
