Hello Bavaria
Welcome to beautiful Bavaria! Today we had a full but entertaining day. We started out our morning in Heidelberg, not too much was happening there. We have discovered that it is far less of a 24/7 world here. Stores open around ten and close by six. So it does curtail the shopping a bit. But the weather was fantastic today. We hit high 20's by the time we were in Munich, it was pretty warm. Glad I prepared with capris, and tomorrow is supposed to be the same. I think that I got a lot of color today.
After Heidelberg we had another day of travel through Germany. Our first stop was medieval rothenburg. It was so cute. Maybe that isn't the best word to use but nothing within the walls has changed since the 14th century I want to say. It is all filled with cute cobblestone roads and beautiful churches, I even found the stairs and walked along the top of the wall. We also saw their display, I would best describe it as a giant cuckoo clock. It depicts an old story of the town being spared because the mayor could chug wine.
After rothenburg we headed to Munich with the temperatures rising. But it is a beautiful city, such a strange mix if old and new. I guess they had plans of most of the buildings so they were able to rebuild after the bombings. We didn't have too much time but did visit Marienplatz and the town halls. And watched the glockenspiel.
Afterwards we made it to Oberammergau in the heart of the bavarian alps. It is so charming. They have frescos on the houses depicting fairy tales and it is all surrounded by the alps. Our hotel is also charming, we all had a tour of the rooms as the last hotel didn't have much to recommend it, but it was a clean bed and a shower so you can't complain too much.
Still lots of farm land that we are passing. It almost looks like home.
Have finally gotten onto a new schedule with the time change which is nice. It feels weird to think that it is only the early afternoon at home right now!
Tomorrow is a big castle day and we should have time to wander the town and it's delightful charms.
