Arrival

Well here I am in foggy Halifax.  I'm waiting for the shuttle bus to take me to my car so I have a little time to burn.  I'm still trying to figure out why I keep thinking the red eye flights are good.  I'm feeling awake and alert right now but not sure how long it will last.  I guess that is one good thing from work, I'm used to being up really early on not a lot of sleep and still functioning.

The flight wasn't too bad, lots of kids and people snoring.  Thankfully my iPod blocked a lot of that noise.  I do feel like one of the only tourists on this flight though.  I'm pretty sure I'll be the only one on the shuttle bus.  I guess people don't really think the maritimes are touristy.  But I've found a lot of interesting things to do.

Today's plan is to wander around the waterfront boardwalk they have.  And maybe check out the citadel, which appears to be a confederation themed version of fort Ed so that should be good,  also it appears to be only a few minutes away from my hotel so that is even better!  I'm also hoping to go to Peggy's cove.  I'm not entirely sure what there is aside from a fancy lighthouse and a fishing village but all the guide books seemed to think it was the place to go so who am I to argue!

But I'm off for adventure and excitement now, and of course, trying to stay awake!

Home Again

Now that I'm home again vacation is starting to just feel like a wonderful memory.  It's a little sad how fast it can end.  But the trip didn't really feel like it flew along at a crazy pace.  And now it's back to real life! Our last day in London we had extra time in the morning to wander around but we still had to have our bags out at a specific time and that threw the schedule a little bit.  But I was up early and walked down to Trafalgar square.  I'm still a little awed at the sheer size of London but how incredibly walkable the city is.  Also it was really nice to get there before the tourists and take pictures when it was just me!  And of course I fit in one last waffle.  That's a delight I will miss. We did survive the plane ride.  Air Canada had a far better crew on the way back home than on the way there, I might consider traveling with them again for an international flight.  The one thing I did find amusing is Heathrow air...

Triple threat today

It has been both a laid back day and a busy day. Today we hit three countries in less than eight hours. Crazy times. We started out in Germany where we were woken up to a crazy rainstorm. We did have good timing and it was finished by the time we were off. We then made our way south through Austria. What a beautiful area it is. They call it the Tyrol and it is lush and mountainous. We had a mid-morning stop in Innsbruck. We had a bit of time to spend in the old town area. Sadly, the golden roof was covered for cleaning. I'll admit this is always the risk of traveling in the off times. Many areas have been nice and quiet but it does mean that this is the time of year that maintenance is done. But there was plenty other things to see and it was a nice spot for the morning. After our morning stop we made it through brenner pass into Italy on the way to Venice!! It was quite the drive. Oh la la, hello Paris

Today we had our day to ourselves. Mostly. The planned excursion was to the louvre museum. We were planning on going but didn't want to pay the 45€ to go when it only cost us 10€ each instead. We did end up taking a ride with the group and then ditched them and went in alone. Also, I'm not sure that I am that into art and statues to want to follow someone around for almost three hours telling me what to think. That museum is insanely huge. I knew it was big but wow. We toured a little bit of it. The Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo were easy to find. The Mona Lisa is fairly small and there were swarms of people fighting to get in line to see it up close. Paris is an interesting place to visit. I really wouldn't want to drive here. It looks like it is complete chaos. Our replacement driver spent a lot of time honking at other drivers.
